PPB Analytical is thrilled to introduce our latest collaboration with Craft cultivators that rely on us to provide testing services so that their products can be sold in the Canadian Market. In this blog post, we’ll explore the exciting details of PPB’s Craft Product Highlight. #CraftProductHighlight

FOR THE LOVE OF CRAFT

PPB Analytical’s Craft Product Highlight is an opportunity for growers that partner with PPB Analytical for their testing needs to showcase their products. It’s a place to proudly display Craft Cannabis and celebrate the story behind the passion.

Our showcase is all about celebrating the GROWER’S CRAFT PRODUCT! We believe in the power of our community and the creativity that flourishes within it. Whether you’re a seasoned cannabis enthusiast or a newcomer eager to share your experiences, this highlight is designed for producers to shine and consumers to learn about new or already loved buds.

THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICS

From a scientific standpoint, the dried bud is a complex matrix containing cannabinoids, terpenes, water, and plant matter such as cellulose. To characterize the chemistry of a bud, PPB Analytical samples a collection of bud material between 1-2 g performs the three main tests that form our Quality Assurance test package: Cannabinoid Profiling, Terpenes Profiling, and Loss on Drying.

Cannabinoid Profiling
Scientists have identified dozens, and are still discovering more, cannabinoids. PPB Analytical profiles the 14 most important cannabinoids and will highlight the key testing results in the Craft Product Highlight. Total tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), total cannabidiol (CBD) and notable cannabinoids data will be displayed in the Craft Product Highlight.

Terpenes Profiling
Terpenes are chemicals responsible for the smells, flavours and your experience when consuming cannabis. A lot of the passion behind Craft cannabis comes from the desire to cultivate plants that produce unique terpene profiles. Two strains of cannabis can have the same total THC content but lead to completely different experiences when consumed. The terpene profile (not just the presence of specific chemicals, but also the relative ratio of how these chemicals are present) is responsible for those differences. There is still a lot to learn about how terpenes affect the overall cannabis experience and Craft producers are leading the way in this field of understanding. PPB Analytical profiles the 59 most important terpenes and will highlight the key testing results in the Craft Product Highlight. Total terpenes content and the top contributing terpenes data will be displayed in the Craft Product Highlight.

Loss on Drying
Dried flower can contain anywhere between 5 to 15% water by weight, and this residual water content is entirely dependent on the drying and curing process. To comprehensively compare different products, the water content must be taken into consideration. Click here to learn more about Loss on Drying. Data presented in the Craft Product Highlight have been corrected for moisture content.
